How we started
The Federation of Indian American Organizations of Washington (FIAWA), a registered 501(C) nonprofit organization (Federal Tax ID 27-1362620), was established in 2009 with a clear and powerful vision: to bring together leaders from various Indian organizations across Washington state and unite them under a common purpose. FIAWA serves as a central platform for collaboration, cultural exchange, and mutual support among the Indian American community.
Our core mission is to strengthen the bonds between Indian organizations, celebrate the rich diversity of Indian culture, and preserve time-honored traditions for future generations. By nurturing a spirit of unity and inclusivity, FIAWA promotes cultural awareness, encourages civic engagement, and creates opportunities for community growth and leadership development.
We are committed to empowering Indian American individuals and groups, amplifying their voices, and creating a vibrant, interconnected network that reflects the dynamic spirit and heritage of India in the Pacific Northwest.

Gandhi Memorial
FIAWA established the Bellevue Library, funding its inauguration, and annually honors Mahatma Gandhi on his birth (Oct 2) and death (Jan 30) anniversaries. The Government of India gifted the Gandhi Memorial.

Washington Women's Forum by FIAWA
Our Women’s Forum is dedicated to supporting women affected by domestic violence. We offer resources, advocacy, and a compassionate network to empower survivors and help them rebuild their lives with dignity and confidence.

Washington Helping Hands
Through our Helping Hands initiative, we provide vital support to the homeless community. This includes food donations, as well as distribution of jackets, blankets, and other essential items to help those in need, especially during harsh weather conditions.

Vishwa Bharathi Arts and Culture Center
FIAWA recently started this initiative to unite Indian organizations and build a community center that brings people together and preserves our rich culture, languages, and art forms.
